2011/06/18 – Protect your privacy – AMA shredding event

In partnership with Shred It, the Calgary Police Service and the RCMP, the Alberta Motor Association is hosting a free shredding event in Calgary on June 18, 2011.  This is an opportunity to safely dispose of all the financial, medical and other paperwork that could be used to steal your identity or defraud you.

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing fraud-related crimes in Canada. Your identity can be stolen if your credit card statements, bank statements and tax forms fall into the wrong hands. One of the best ways to protect your identity is by properly destroying all personal documents, particularly those containing identifying information such as:

  • Address
  • Birthday
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Banking or credit card information

So after you’ve participated in the HOPE run, pop home to pick up your unneeded papers, then stop by the Shawnessy AMA office (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.)  to take advantage of this valuable service.

Calgary Foundation survey

The Calgary Foundation  involves some of the most important philanthropists in the city.  In 2010, it managed the gifting of $29 million to more than 600 organizations.  Their research is also used by other donors and agencies, so it is important that they have accurate information and are aware of the issues affecting Calgary.

This Calgary Foundation survey measures Calgary’s quality of life in 14 key issue areas and provides a snapshot of our city’s wellness and livability for Calgary’s Vital Signs 2011 report card.

Calgary Vital Signs 2011 survey provides a reading of Calgary’s strengths and weaknesses today so that we can effectively move toward the city we want to create for ourselves and our children in the future.
