Ariel Walker: Our “Changemaker” on Charity Village

CharityVillage® celebrates this sector’s changemakers, individual men and women who have made significant contributions to the nonprofit and charitable arena, making change and a difference in the lives of many. Our very own Ariel Walker was spotlighted this month!

“Committed to helping people struggling with Huntington Disease and their families — a group with hardly any support or networks at the time — Ariel Walker and her husband Ralph founded the Huntington Society of Canada in 1973. Ralph held the role of executive director for 24 years until his retirement in 1997.”
“As a result of their vision, hard work, and never-ending devotion, Huntington disease is no longer the silent, misunderstood disease it once was. Thanks to the two energetic trailblazers, the society evolved over the years into an internationally recognized organization, with a strong network of volunteers, professionals, and research scientists advancing the cause every way they can.  A testament to the society’s far-reaching impact, Ariel was recently awarded the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship by David Onley, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.”
